“One time I was able to quit smoking for two years, so I was confident I could quit again. Rather than quitting cold turkey without any support, I reached out to the quitline to increase my chances of quitting forever. Over the course of two months, I explored and re-explored reasons, triggers, and quitting strategies with a strong focus on avoiding going back to smoking. With the help of my quitline coaches, I recognized that staying away from smokers and avoiding smoking areas at work would help a lot. I also used the nicotine patch to allow my body to adjust gradually to lower amounts of nicotine. Now I’m at the end of my program, and I feel confident that this time I’ll remain quit for good. I’m completely convinced that cigarettes are nasty. I never want to smoke again.”
